The First Families of Florence
Tuesday 29th April 2025 at 18:00
Long before the Medici asserted their domination there were the leading families of the early Florentine Republic. We will look at some of the most important and recognizable names and explore how they came to occupy the highest echelons of power in the thirteenth-century city. In particular, we will focus on the Portinari family, whose fame extends into the present day thanks to their important charitable works and a very famous daughter called Beatrice who still lives on in our collective imaginations.
